There is no other place that can handle the thrust and hustle-bustle of a huge event such as the Biennale, other than Kochi, the surrounding islands, and Muziris.
The city is known for its multi-cultural past, making it an ideal venue to host the big art festival in India. Kochi in the past decade has fast become a minuscule circuit featuring global art. Check out our Kochi one day itineary.
With this monumental event, the city is exposed to more global art from over 24 countries featuring over 80 artists.
The Biennale is all about the artist’s presentation of art in the form of paintings, installations, sculptures, performing arts and films.
KOCHI MUZIRIS BIENNALE
Cochin Street
Kochi-Muziris Biennale is spread across fourteen venues in the beautiful, quaint town of Fort Kochi, the bustling city of Ernakulam and Mattancherry. The entire region of Kochi is transformed easily into a gorgeous carnival land since the artists blend the fervour of traditional and contemporary arts.
Classical and folk-arts are also part of this equation, which adds more colour from across the world to this city.
These art shows are organized in existing heritage buildings, halls, and galleries. While to explore you can rent a car Kochi and its art scene is best explored on foot to feel the local essence.
BIG NAME OF THE ART SCENE
The Biennale features the best works of art by some of the bigwigs of the contemporary art scene such as Jonas Staal, Amanullah Mojadidi, Ariel Hassan, Ernesto Neto and Joseph Semah. These site-specific work and evolutionary public installations have caught the eye of locals and visitors alike.
The indigenous folk and performing arts is another impressive segment in the Biennale, featuring the age-old Sanskrit theatre gems of Nangiarkoothu, Koodiyattom, Ghazals, and Kathakali.
This rhythm is boosted by the ritualistic, folk and percussion arts of Kerala. Biennale is known to offer cultural alternative art discourses for researchers, art lovers, artists, students, collectors and thinkers from around the globe
WE RECOMMEND!
